2012 is The Year of The Doors
The year-long celebration of the iconic 1960's rock band, The Doors kicks off with a release of a new, never-before released track from the LA Woman Sessions titled "She Smells So Nice." The track will premier on the band's Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/thedoors) January 9th and on various radio stations the next day.
The track was discovered by LA Woman's co-producer Bruce Botnick while he was reviewing the LA Woman session tapes in preparation for the 40th anniversary special re-release of the album this year. In addition to "She Smells So Nice," the second disc of the LA Woman 40th anniversary release features never-before heard versions of songs from the album including alternative versions of "Love Her Madly" and "Riders on the Storm." The release also includes studio chatter that gives insights to the creative process that made the songs so special. One such instance features a conversation between Jim Morrison and Botnick where Morrison suggests that thunderstorm sounds effects be used in the intro to "Riders on the Storm."
The Doors has a full roster of events planned for 2012 including a logo design contest, fan art contests, more new releases, behind-the scenes footage and more. Next up for the celebration is a screening of "Mr. Mojo Risin," on January 20th, followed by a discussion with Jac Holzman, Jim Ladd and other special guests at The Egyptian Theater in L.A. This documentary features all-new interviews with the three surviving members of The Doors; Ray Manzarek, Robbie Krieger and John Densmore, plus contributions from Elecktra Records founder Jac Holzman and archival live and studio performance footage.
The Rare Collections team has also been busy gathering memorabilia for this special year-long celebration, including an exclusive release of Doors photography by Frank Lisciandro in the Spring. We look forward to a great year of celebrating 2012 with the Doors and their fans.
