Dick Clark dies April 18, 2012 at the age of 82

This is truly the end of an era. Dick Clark died the morning of April 18, 2012 from a heart attack at the age of 82. This pop culture icon was instrumental in so many artist's careers and brought Rock and Roll into the American mainstream. He will be sorely missed.

"American Bandstand" gave the first national exposure to many popular music artists including Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly and Chubby Checker. His show broke racial barriers and promoted a love of American music.

Clark once said, "Music is the soundtrack of your life." Although he wasn't the one making the music, he was managing it's production and promotion to perfection. His business acumen translated well from music to the television and film industries and he was able to build Dick Clark Productions into an entertainment empire. "I don't make culture, I sell it," he once said. And that he did very well.

The host of "New Year's Rockin' Eve" for decades, it's hard to imagine what New Year's Eve 2012 will be like without him.  Clark's role has been diminishing since his stroke in 2004 and I'm sure Ryan Seacrest (Clark's hand-picked replacement) will do a wonderful job, but it won't be the same without Dick Clark and his ever-youthful smile.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest in peace and thank you for touching our lives.
